Past Life Regression Test: What the Quizzes Can and Can’t Tell You

What the quizzes are reading, and the signs that come from somewhere else

If you’ve just taken a past life regression test online and it told you that you were a healer in medieval France, you’re probably wondering whether to believe it.

Here’s what I think those quizzes are actually doing, and what I’d look at instead.

What a quiz can read

A set of questions can’t reach a life. What it can read is a pattern.

We carry archetypes, and we can be imprinted with many of them. The healer, the warrior, the exile, the caretaker, the one who was silenced. A quiz asking what you’re drawn to and what you fear is picking up which of those are live in you, and then dressing the answer in a period costume.

That’s not nothing. It’s just not necessarily a past life.

So here’s my honest test for a test: did something happen when you took it? If a question or a result landed somewhere in your body, if you felt a small drop or a recognition, that’s worth paying attention to. Not as proof of a life, but as a signal that something in you responded.

What matters isn’t whether the quiz was right. It’s what it showed you.

Why so many people get Cleopatra

There’s an idea that explains more of this than the joke about everyone being royalty.

Some of what we carry may be an overlay. The experience of a life that was lived by someone else, given to us to move through as if it were our own. Think of a film so immersive that you can see it and feel it, but you have no agency inside it. You didn’t make the choices. You were there for the experience.

Why we’d do such a thing, I don’t know for certain. It might be for the experience itself. I suspect more often it’s to learn something we’ll need, perhaps for the life we’re about to live, perhaps for several.

If that’s right, then someone who feels a genuine pull toward Cleopatra isn’t necessarily deluded or inflating themselves. They may be carrying something real that they didn’t live. From this side, telling the difference between a life you lived and a life you were given to witness is very hard. It matters much less than what either one is asking you to see.

The signs that come from an ordinary life

I see this all the time, and it rarely looks mystical. It looks like a reaction that’s too big for its cause.

An instant response to a stranger. Sometimes that reads as falling in love very fast, sometimes as disliking someone on sight with nothing to point at.

A place you’ve never been that feels like home, or one you can’t be in.

A fear with no origin story. Water. Things around the neck. Being ridiculed in public.

I once caught a glimpse of someone I know in another life, standing on a scaffold, wrongly accused, with people throwing stones before she was hanged. In this life she manages her public image with enormous care. She had no idea why it mattered so much.

What “irrational” actually means

We use that word for all of these, and it’s the wrong one.

An irrational reaction is one with no reason behind it. What’s actually happening is that there’s no reason in this life that accounts for the depth of the feeling. The response isn’t disproportionate to its real cause. It’s disproportionate to the cause you can see.

That’s the clue. Not strangeness, not drama. Intensity that doesn’t match the story you have for it.

What to do when you notice one

Suppose you recognize one of these in your own life: the fear with no origin story, the place that feels like home, the person you couldn’t warm to and couldn’t say why.

The first thing is to do very little, and I mean that as advice rather than a shrug.

A sign doesn’t tell you what to do, and it doesn’t prove that anything happened. What it marks is a spot where something sits close to the surface in you. So watch it. Notice when it fires, and what happened just before it did. Notice what else in your life has the same flavor. People often find that the watching alone loosens the grip, because something you can see coming holds you less tightly than something that arrives out of nowhere.

Going further than watching is what a session is for, and it works differently from a quiz in one important way. A quiz hands you an answer. A session gives you an experience, and then asks what you make of it. The second is slower, and it’s the one that tends to change something.

If a sign has been following you around for years, the Higher Self Journey is a two-to-three-hour online session where we go and look at it.
