The Joy of Becoming

Six months of held work to bring what you’ve seen home. Into your body, into Monday, into the life you actually live. Walked with company, not alone.

Begin with a conversation

You’ve done the work

Maybe years of it. The therapy, the books, the ceremony, the session that opened something you still can’t fully explain. You can name your patterns better than anyone. You understood something true.

And then Monday came, and you were the same. You understood it at ten in the morning and did the old thing at four. Sent the same apology, took the same exit, said yes when you meant no.

That’s the part no one explains. Not the pattern. The knowing, and still not changing.

Nothing you did was wasted. The session was real. The insight was real. What was missing was never more insight.

What was missing

Every kind of magic takes you out to get the answer. The ceremony, the session, the retreat, the download. But going out is half of it. Retrieval is a round trip, and almost nobody teaches the way back.

The answer changes your life on the return. When it comes down out of the vision and into your body, your habits, your ordinary week.

You were shown the house. You were sent home without the address.

That isn’t your failure and it isn’t the method’s. It’s a missing half. And sometimes a system that’s too full, running hot, holding everyone, has nowhere to put what it receives. That isn’t failure either. It’s sequence.

What this is

The return, walked with you.

Six months, along four movements. The Mapping, the Tending, the Crossing, and the Return. Each one takes what you’ve seen and brings it, slowly, into the life you live.

Not more insight. A way to make the insight land.

Nothing here treats you as broken. The work is making room for what’s been trying to come through, which is the self the old pattern held back.

What’s in it

It begins with the Terrain. A close reading of your own words that maps the ground beneath your pattern, plus a live session of breath, then hypnosis, then journey, where you meet what the map found. The map, and the body. From there, over six months:

  • Finding Your Medicine. Private one-to-one sessions, closer together at first, then monthly. Ninety minutes each, half conversation and half experiential.
  • Sacred Circle. A witnessed group, every Sunday, where you find you’re not the only one.
  • A weekly teaching. A short video, a practice, something to sit with. The thread between sessions.
  • Four recordings you keep. Coming Home to the Body, Meeting What Rises, Filling the Vessel, and What Lands. Guided practices that teach your body the way back to settled.
  • A Higher Self Journey. The deep crossing, two to three hours, when you’re ready for it.
  • A re-mapping at the halfway point. To see what shifted that you never felt shift.

Ten sessions in all, and the circle every week.

The shape of six months

Four movements. Down through the first three, and back up through the last.

Movement one  ·  Weeks 1 to 3

The Mapping

You come out of the reaching and start to see. Your intake, your Terrain session, and your map. You leave this stretch knowing what’s actually running underneath, in writing, in your own words.

The Terrain session and your map. The first recording, Coming Home to the Body.

Movement two  ·  Weeks 4 to 16

The Tending

The long, real middle, and the heart of it. This is where the pattern gets worked rather than understood. Slowly, and mostly out of sight. It can look like nothing is happening for weeks. That’s the new way being practiced, quietly, until your body trusts it more than the old one.

Five sessions, at weeks 4, 6, 8, 10 and 16. Your re-mapping at week 12. The second recording, Meeting What Rises. Two written pieces, Where You End and I Begin, and The Weight of Joy.

Movement three  ·  Weeks 17 to 18

The Crossing

The furthest-down work of the whole six months. It happens when your system is ready for it, not on a date, and by then you’ll have spent four months building the capacity to go there and come back.

Your Higher Self Journey. The third recording, Filling the Vessel.

Movement four  ·  Weeks 19 to 24

The Return

You come back up, carrying what you went down for. Monthly sessions now. Less input, more integration, as the change stops being something you do in sessions and becomes how you live.

Two sessions, at weeks 20 and 24. The fourth recording, What Lands.

How it got its name

I did the deep work for years. Grief first, and then the patterns underneath the grief, the ones that had been running long before it arrived. I was in the deepest part of that for a long time, longer than I would have chosen.

Somewhere in there I started wondering when the joy was supposed to show up. What all of it was for. I had done everything I knew how to do and I was still down there.

What I eventually understood is that the joy had not been withheld. It was already there. I couldn’t feel it because I had no room for it. I had spent years building the capacity to stay present with grief and with anger and with everything I had been avoiding, and none of that capacity had ever been pointed at anything good.

Holding joy is harder than people admit. It asks you to stay inside something good without bracing for it to end, and most of us have far more practice at surviving than at that.

Then came the part that surprised me. The skills were the same. Everything I had built to stay present with what was hard worked just as well on what was good. Capacity doesn’t know the difference between the two. You only have to turn it around.

That is what these six months are. The Tending builds the capacity, slowly, on the hard material, because that is where it gets built. The Return is where you find out what else it is for. I’ve written more about why the wound is not the medicine, which is the same idea from another angle.

How it’s held

The work is done online, and that’s on purpose. It goes furthest when your body is somewhere familiar and safe, with nothing spent on being somewhere new. You can lie down in your own room, and when it’s over you don’t have to drive anywhere.

In-person sessions in Waxhaw are available for a small added fee.

Who this is for

  • People who have already tasted something real and were quietly heartbroken when it faded.
  • People who can describe their patterns exactly and still can’t move them.
  • People who want sustained, held work rather than one more quick fix.
  • Healers and practitioners who want to be the client for a while. You can’t take anyone further than you’ve gone yourself, and the depth you can offer is the depth you go to in your own work. Six months of being held instead of holding, with someone who can meet you where you are and help you go deeper. More on working this way as a practitioner →

If you came through plant medicine: it has its place, and it opened something real. It’s also a sledgehammer, and most people don’t need one. There’s a gentler way, gradual and titrated, meeting you where you are. You don’t have to be leveled to change.

The only people this isn’t for are the ones who are comfortable and happy exactly where they are. If that’s you, you’re already where you need to be.

Why me

I’ve sat in hundreds of these sessions. After a while I could tell, in the first hour, who would walk out changed and who would walk out the same.

It was never the method. It was whether their system could receive what came, and whether they had any way to bring it home. The ones who changed had a return, or built one.

So I built the return. That’s what this is.

Want a sample of the work we’d be doing?

Running on Empty is a Terrain, and it’s free. Not built from your intake, but from the ground almost everyone is standing on right now: the tiredness sleep doesn’t reach, the yes that’s out of your mouth before you’ve checked whether it was true, the long middle where you can see the pattern clearly and still can’t shift it.

This is the ground we start from. Your own Terrain goes further, because it’s built from your words rather than from what’s common to most of us, but the shape of the work is the same. Read it slowly, with a pen nearby.

It’s free. You’ll also join my newsletter, and you can leave anytime.

If you’ve seen plenty and still can’t move

If seeing has never been your problem, this was built for you.
